subscriptionとperiodicalの違いを解説

subscriptionとperiodicalはよく混同される言葉ですが、

実は違いがあります。

この記事では、

subscriptionとperiodicalの違いを

例文とともに解説します

まず、subscriptionですが、

「1.定期購読、定期購読料」

という意味の単語です。

最近では、定額制のコンテンツ配信、ゲームや音楽、ソフト利用など、

さまざまなサービスを定額で定期利用することを

「subscription=サブスク」と呼んでいます。

また、こうした定期課金を軸としたビジネスは、

「subscription business　サブスクリプションビジネス」

と呼ばれています。

また、

「2.（定期的な）寄付金」

「3．署名」

という意味でも使われます。

一方、

periodicalは、

subscription　定期購読の対象となるもので、

subscriber＝定期購読している人に

送られる刊行物＝「定期刊行物」という意味です。

また、periodical inspection　定期的な検査

のように

「定期的な」という形容詞として使われることもあります。

形容詞としては、periodicのほうが、

「定期的な／周期的な／間欠的な、断続的な」

という、さまざまな意味で使われますので、

月刊のファッション雑誌を例にとると、

その雑誌は、periodical　定期刊行物ですが、

その雑誌を毎月購入するために、

契約してお金を支払うこと（定期購読）を

subscriptionと言います。
