be in charge of～とbe responsible for～の違い
仕事上の自己紹介で、
「～を担当しています」と言う時には、
「責任者」を意味していることもあれば、
「実務の担当者」を意味していることもあります。
それと同じように、
be in charge of～は、
be in charge of sales department セールス部門を担当している
なら「責任者」という意味ですし、
be in charge of part evaluation 部品の評価を担当している
なら「実務担当者」という意味になります。
chargeの語源は、もともと「荷物」なので、
負担の大きさに関係なく、
「対象に対して責務を負っている」という意味を持ちます。
一方、be responsible for～は、
「責任」に重点が置かれており、
日常的な話題だと、
I'm responsible for bringing up my children. 子供を育てる責任がある
仕事なら、
I'm responsible for this project. このプロジェクトの責任者です（に対し責任がある）
というように使うことができます。
そのため、プロジェクトの一部を担当しているエンジニアが、
I am responsible for this project.と言うと、
プロジェクトの統括者だと相手に伝わってしまいます。
担当している領域を伝えたいときは、
I am in charge of software in this project.
I'm handling mechanical design in this project.
I am involved in this project.
のように自己紹介するのがよいでしょう。
