butとhoweverの違いを解説-逆説を表す表現
butもhoweverも「しかし」という意味で、
同じような使い方をしていないでしょうか？
この2語は、文法的にも
butが等位接続詞／howeverが副詞
なので、根本的に違います。
butは、文法的に対等なら、
名詞でも形容詞でも句や節もつなぐことができます。
一方のhoweverは、副詞なので文と文をつなぎます。
例えば、beautifulとexpensive（形容詞）を対比させたい場合は、
butしか使えません。
◯ Its design is beautiful but expensive.
Ｘ Its design is beautiful however expensive.
howeverを使うとしたら、次のようにします。
文頭や文中において、文と文をつないで使います。
