presentとrepresent-意味の違いを解説
presentと聞いたとき、まず思い浮かぶのは、
「1.プレゼント、贈り物」という意味かと思います。

また、「2.現在」という意味でもよく使われます。
動詞としては、
まず、賞などを「1.授与する、贈呈する」という意味があり、
present him with an award 彼に賞を授与する
＝present an award for him
というように使われます。
次に、「2.～を発表する」
という意味があり、presentationは「発表」です。
present the current status 現状を発表する
また、「3.～を提示する」
という意味もあり、
「IDを提示する」は、present ID IDを提示すると言います。
TOEIC頻出単語ですので、3つの意味を確実に理解しておきましょう。
一方、
動詞representの基本的意味は、
A represents Bで「AはBを表す≓AはBである」です。
そこから派生した次の3つの意味を覚えましょう。
1.AはBを表す、象徴する
2.A（数量）は、B（数量を含む名詞）である
3.AはBを代表する
3の「AはBを代表する」という意味では、TOEIC頻出で、
He represents this company. 彼はこの会社の代表ですという使い方をし、
He is representative of this company.と言い換えることもできます。
