result/consequence/outcome-意味の違いを解説
日本語の「結果」に対して、すぐ思い浮かぶのはresultですが、
consequenceやoutcomeもよく使われます。
resultは、「結果、成果」という意味で、
「ものごとの最終的な結果、結末」を表し、次のように使われます。
His success is the result of his great efforts. 成功は、大きな努力の結果だ
Our research results were published. 私たちの研究成果が、公表された
また、
consequenceは、「（よくない）結果、影響」という意味で、
「con 一緒に（with）／sequence 続く」
＝「何かの影響で起きた必然的な結果、起こるべくして起こった結果」
を表し、次のように使われます。
This failure is a consequence of improper repair. この故障は不適切な修理の影響だ
そして、最後のoutcomeですが、
「out（外に）come（出てくる）成果」
＝「成果、成り行き」という意味で、次のように使います。
Successful surgical outcomes were reported. うまくいった手術の結果が報告された

ここでは、さらにもう一語、effectも取り上げたいと思います。
effectは、「効果」という意味でよく使われますが、
cause and effectといえば、「原因と結果」という意味で、
「（何かの影響による）結果」を表し、次のように使われることもあります。
He is suffering from the effects of overwork. 彼は過労の結果、病気で苦しんでいる
As a result,～/Consequently,～に代表される、
「その結果、～」「～の結果として」という副詞表現も重要ですので、
